Alpha Hall

Alpha Hall was a place for entertainment and social life in historic Grayson, serving as a music venue, meeting hall, and on its lower floor, a place for commerce. It operated in a time before television or even widespread use of radio, hosting musical performances, lectures, political rallies, meetings for community organizations, comedy acts, and more.

Furthermore, Alpha Hall hosted the first movies shown in Grayson. Based on the dates of Alpha Hall’s operation, these would have been silent films with piano accompaniment. Meetings and entertainment took place in the upper floor of the building while the lower floor housed the general store of L.D. O’Roark.

The location of Alpha Hall is difficult to pinpoint exactly, but it may have been located on the corner of Hord Street and Main near where the Veterans Park and adjacent pavilion currently stand. It is also not clear when Alpha Hall ceased to be. It may have been destroyed in one of the fires that ravaged Grayson’s Main Street in 1914 and 1915.
