Caummisar Law Office

Why This Place Matters: This building is one of Grayson’s oldest surviving structures and has served as a medical office, law office, private home, and guest house.

The Story: Built around 1857, the former Caummisar Law Office was constructed from local handmade brick in a vernacular Federal style. It was built by Dr. William Dunlap Jones, a physician who practiced in Grayson in the 19th century.

Over time, the building was connected to several notable local figures, including attorney L.D. Kennard and later Laura and Robert Caummisar, who operated it as the Caummisar Law Office. Today, the building continues to reflect Grayson’s layered professional and residential history.
