Kentucky Christian University
Why This Place Matters: Kentucky Christian University has been part of Grayson’s educational and spiritual life for more than a century. Its story reflects the community’s commitment to Christian education, leadership, ministry, and service.
The Story: Kentucky Christian University began in 1919 as Christian Normal Institute, founded by J.W. Lusby. The school originally served both high school and college students and was created to train ministers and teachers. In 1944, it became Kentucky Christian College, and in 2004 it became Kentucky Christian University.
The university’s history is visible across campus through buildings named for significant leaders, including Lusby Center, Young Library, Snodgrass Hall, Nash Chapel, McKenzie Student Life Center, and Jones Hall. Today, KCU continues its mission of preparing Christian leaders through programs in ministry, biblical studies, business, education, history, biology, nursing, and more.
